Mufaddal Saifuddin started the practice of bringing a “celebrity” – politician, doctor, etc. but anyone from outside the community – to his Ashara waaz. Almost as a way of giving it “stamp of approval” as clearly his own presence is not enough. Here is a video the late John Magufuli (ex-president of Tanzania) attending during 1438 Ashara in Dar es Salaam. The whole thing is just bizarre:
- songs recited in Swahili
- Mufaddal Saifuddin gets his people to ask the President for permission before he can start his bayaan
- prays abyaat of Ya Syeda Shohadai and Fulkul Hussain
- does matam
- does bayaan in Dawat ni Zaban
Why? Who is he even addressing since obviously none of the guests understanding anything he is saying.
This is clearly against Syedna Burhanuddin’s practice who never preferred any interruptions to his waaz – which is a time meant for Dai to address Mumineen. One time during 1425 Ashara, when the ruler of Dubai decided to pay Syedna Burhanuddin a visit during waaz, he departed from the masjid, met him and then returned back to resume waaz. He did not have a stage waiting for him in the masjid.
